From Chief Executive Officer, Richard Trickel
Welcome to The City Mission’s website.
For over a century, The City Mission has provided help and hope to Cleveland’s hurting and homeless. Then as now, our work begins with meeting basic human needs of food, shelter, and caring. But with the help of many faithful friends, we are able to give so much more.
As we continue to adapt to the changing needs of the community we’ve developed programs that can be tailored to the specific needs of each individual we meet.
I’m excited to see God working in the lives of the men, women, and children that come to us for help and I invite you to explore our site starting with the our foundation listed below, and then see some of the powerful stories of hope for yourself. I’m confident that if you do, you’ll start to get excited too.
Everything we do is made possible by the committed support of donors and volunteers. Would you join with us in the work of “reaching hearts and changing lives” in the city of Cleveland?
Richard Trickel, Chief Executive Officer
Through wars, depression, economic recession, and decades of change for the city of Cleveland, dedicated men, and women worked hard to meet the changing needs of those experiencing crisis. We take pride in the fact that our methods adapt, but our mission remains the same. Read more about our rich 100+ year history on Our Story page.
Mission, Vision, & Core Values
So what is our mission? To provide help and hope to all people through the transforming power of God’s love. If you’d like to learn more about what we believe, our vision for the city of Cleveland, and the core values that drive our work every day, visit our Mission, Vision, & Core Values page.
We define “crisis” as a traumatic or stressful change in a person’s life. They may have overextended their personal support systems or rejected other resources, thus requiring significantly longer periods of time to stabilize. Others have experienced a series of traumas, often a result of toxic environments, broken relationships and poor choices. Our ministries at Laura’s Home, Pathways, Crossroads, and Inmate Outreach Services allow those in crisis to begin rebuilding their lives, repairing relationships, and restoring hearts. Visit any of these individuals pages for a deep dive into our methods, or visit the Our Services page for an overview.
Nowhere is this more evident than in our leadership team. Our trustees and staff are men and women with different lives and different stories. But each shares a sense of purpose and a belief in our mission and is bound by shared beliefs. Each “walks the talk”, applying the same principles our clients are learning in their programs to their daily lives at work and personal life so that clients are encouraged to do likewise in all they do. Who are these leaders? Learn about them on our Leadership page.
The City Mission has developed collaborations with hundreds of organizations around the city and country to more effectively deliver goods and services to the people coming to us for help rather than trying to reinvent successful programs. Visit our Community Partnerships to see just who these partners are and why they team up with us.
At The City Mission we have the privilege of seeing many men and women take those first steps toward sobriety, self-sufficiency, and stability. What’s even more rewarding is walking along the road with them, seeing it lead them ever closer to our Lord. We want to transparently share these stories, statistics, and finances with you in our Annual Report.
