New Year, New School - The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio

When “back to school” means starting over.

For most kids, the beginning of a new school year means new supplies, new teachers, and renewed friendships. But for the kids living at Laura’s Home, “back to school” means something else.

Many of these kids have to transfer schools when they move in, so they’re adjusting to a lot at once: a new place to live, a new school, new classmates and teachers… it can be overwhelming. If a mother does decide to keep her children in their current school, they typically have to take public transportation back and forth which adds hours to their school day.

In addition, their mothers are usually unable to buy new clothes, backpacks, and supplies, and for kids who want so badly to fit in with everyone else, telling their classmates and teachers that they live in a crisis center can be very intimidating.

Easing the Transition

We do all we can to create a welcoming environment for the kids at Laura’s Home. With the help of our supporters, we offer tutoring, after school clubs, field trips, Bible studies, and other special programming to let them know that God loves them and has a plan for their lives.

We also provide clothing and school supplies, but most importantly, we make sure that our staff and volunteers are ready to listen, comfort, and encourage them along the way.

Your partnership makes this possible. Because of you, these kids who are dealing with so much uncertainty have a place that supports them at the beginning of the school year and beyond.

Will you help us continue this vital ministry? Please give today, and help us make “back to school” a time to celebrate. Thank you for caring!
