Donation Terms

Below is a brief summary of some of the critical terms related to the handling of donated funds and donor information. The City Mission is committed to steward with excellence the financial and material donations we receive, to honor the compassionate intention of our supporters, and to protect the private information they have entrusted to us.

Donor Privacy
We do not request or store sensitive information from our visitors such as credit card or social security numbers. We use customer contact information from the registration forms to send the user requested information about our organization. We never sell, share or trade any of our customer information with other companies or organizations.

The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio will respect the intent of the donor relating to gifts for restricted purposes and those relating to the desire to remain anonymous. With respect to anonymous gifts, The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio will restrict information about the donor to only those staff members with a need to know.

Accepting Donations
Acceptance of any contribution, gift, or grant is at the discretion of The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio. The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio will not accept any gift unless it can be used or expended consistently with the purpose and mission of the The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio.

No irrevocable gift, whether outright or life-income in character, will be accepted if under any reasonable set of circumstances the gift would jeopardize the donor’s financial security.

The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio will accept donations of cash or publicly traded securities. Gifts of in-kind services will be accepted at the discretion of The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio.

Certain other gifts, real property, personal property, in-kind gifts, non-liquid securities, and contributions whose sources are not transparent or whose use is restricted in some manner, must be reviewed prior to acceptance due to the special obligations raised or liabilities they may pose for The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio.

The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio will not compensate, whether through commissions, finders’ fees, or other means, any third party for directing a gift or a donor to the The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio.

Receipts and Tax Information
The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio will refrain from providing advice about the tax or other treatment of gifts and will encourage donors to seek guidance from their own professional advisers to assist them in the process of making their donation.

The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio will provide acknowledgments to donors meeting tax requirements for property received by the charity as a gift. However, except for gifts of cash and publicly traded securities, no value shall be ascribed to any receipt or other form of substantiation of a gift received by The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio.

American Express Transaction Fee
If opting to cover the transaction fee, note that American Express charges a 3.5% of the donation fee, while all other cards charge 2.2%+30 cents of the donation. American Express users will see the full amount that was charged to their account as a donation on their tax receipts, but note that by opting to cover the fee you will more than cover or not meet the entire coverage of the fee depending on the amount of your gift. All gifts are appreciated and will be used to further the core values and purposes of the Mission.
