“If I didn’t get help, I was going to die.” And Dale very nearly did die from the effects of his alcohol addiction. Having lost his family and his home, even the Jeep he had been sleeping in, Dale was hopeless and contemplating suicide. His health had deteriorated from drinking and from sleeping on the asphalt outside the restaurant where he worked, with little more than a couple of plastic bags to keep him dry. “I didn’t think there was any way out of the pit that I was in,” he recalls. But on a snowy and “miserable” night shortly before Christmas in 2000, God led Dale to The City Mission through the intervention of two co-workers and a local pastor. “The City Mission surrounded me with love, compassion and care,” Dale says. “They offered me help and hope.” Dale discovered that The City Mission held the key to his recovery. In the Crossroads program, Dale overcame his addiction, restored his health, straightened out his financial obligations, and grew strong in his new-found faith. Today, Dale is employed by the organization that saved his life - The City Mission. With the prayers and support of caring people in our community, Dale helps to guide and heal men and women who - like him - have been broken by addiction and poor choices. “The City Mission gave me back the hope that had been sapped out of me,” says Dale. “They gave me a new outlook on life.” Will you give today and help more men and women like Dale build the positive future they never expected?
