Brian’s Comeback Story - The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio

Brian's Comeback Story

Looking for a Fresh Start in a Cleveland Winter

If you’re like most of us in the Cleveland area, you keep a close eye on the winter weather reports. How many layers should I put on? Will I need to shovel or change my plans because of a snowstorm?

None of that really matters to our homeless neighbors.

“I do have a hard work ethic once given the chance. I’m a loyal worker. I’m a big fan of animals. I’m a big fan of anime. I love cartoons. I like to make people laugh. I’m a bit of an entertainer.”

Brian was healthy and sober, but that’s where his luck ran out. When his roommate kicked him out of their apartment, he had no job, no money, no family… and a cold Cleveland winter to deal with.

A hot meal, a warm bed, and a second chance awaited Brian at The City Mission. “I walked all the way here,” he remembers. “The shoes I had on at the time, you could see my feet through them.”

A First and Last Time Homeless

“I was a first-time homeless,” Brian tells us. Today, with a job at Amazon and a positive attitude, Brian can ensure there won’t be a second time.

“I’m saving my money and looking for a place to live,” he says. “I’m not going to go the easy road. Everything I’ve ever gotten in my life, I earned.”

As Brian makes plans to start his new life outside the Mission, there are still many weeks of cold weather ahead of us… and so many men, women, and children who need your help to make it through this winter.

“The City Mission gives you chances,” says Brian. “I’ve seen a lot of miracles here.”
