Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is officially on November 29 and this year we are raising funds for 94 new StepUp Beds for our Crossroads residents.

Currently, men at Crossroads sleep in metal frame bunk beds, which have begun to create barriers for those who are elderly or physically disabled. The average age of our male residents has increased, so climbing to the top bunk is no longer feasible. As new residents arrive, the number of easily accessible bottom bunks decreases. These new StepUp Beds have stairs with handrails, easy to access for every age we serve. The StepUp system is a safe, high-quality bunk bed system that provides both comfort and dignity. Each includes areas for storage and most importantly, stairs for easier top bunk access with a compliant stair grab bar.

A place to sleep may seem simple for so many who have had a place to call home their entire life. But, for our residents, the one thing that is theirs is their bunk area. These beds are much more private, allowing a place for them to store their Bibles, a charger and night light.

“Everything we do seeks to restore dignity to our residents, and a safe, private place is important as we welcome them in and work to restore all that was lost,” says Dominic Verdell, Crossroads Program Manager.
