Bikes Going Further
I just finished winterizing my home, including finding a place to store my bike and still leave room to actually park my car in the garage. This is a familiar yearly routines in Northeast Ohio. After all, not many in Cleveland expect their bike to go far in the next five months or so.
That’s why it might surprise you that we have an immediate need for bicycles at The City Mission and we hope to collect, tune-up, and distribute bikes all winter long.
The Commuters’ Bike Shop, has been an active program at our downtown campus for over two years. Through it, qualified technicians are getting unwanted bikes back on the road to help men and women get back on their feet. These bikes provide transportation that is easy to store, cheap to maintain, and free to operate. No wonder they are the primary form of transportation for many who complete their time at The Mission and find new housing and employment opportunities. And if you are wondering, yes, they use their bikes all year round.
As Cleveland realizes it’s “commitment to become a bicycle-friendly community”, there’s a chance for your bike to go much farther than you expect this winter, by becoming part of a great comeback story.
If you have a usable or repairable bike of any size (even for kids) to donate for our Commuters’ Bike Shop bringing it to our facility at E55th and Carnegie between 9am or 4pm. If you have any questions about our Commuters’ Bike Shop, leave them in the comments below or send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
