COVID-19 UPDATES - The City Mission of Cleveland, Ohio

COVID-19 UPDATES

To Our Faithful Community,

The City Mission remains fully dedicated to providing help and hope to all people, and will remain open to our neighbors in crisis. We are ensuring the safety of our clients, volunteers, and staff by taking a series of precautionary steps. All decisions are consistent with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations and have been carefully made to support the prevention of the COVID-19 virus from being spread in our community.

1. We are suspending all individual and group volunteer activity, including Volunteering 101.

2. We are temporarily reducing the number of partner agencies who offer services on site, and continually evaluating the suspension or continuation of program elements and on-site activities as appropriate.

3. We temporarily stopped receiving used material gift donations via donor drop-offs, but as of June 1, 2020 have reopened our warehouse at 5310 Carnegie Avenue from 10am-4pm on weekdays. Our warehouse receivers will be wearing masks, and we ask that donors also wear masks if they are able.

4. Furthermore, we have intensified our facilities’ daily cleaning regimen to ensure that our cleaning supplies and practices are consistent with CDC guidelines. We have also implemented additional hand sanitizing stations through our program facilities and work areas.

Each precaution listed above is purely preventative. While these steps add an extra burden to all of us, we recognize that it is of the utmost importance to protect the internal and external community we serve. Besides providing for the safety of our clients, which is our top priority, these actions are part of caring for our Cleveland Community.

In that spirit, we encourage all of our neighbors to educate themselves on the best ways to ensure safety for yourself and those around you by visiting the CDC website and exercising sound judgment in all circumstances.

If you would like to provide extra support to our clients and staff during this difficult time, you are welcome to make a donation on our website. Should you have any further questions please contact our communications team at connect@thecitymission.org.

Sincerely,

Linda Uveges,
CEO, The City Mission

How You Can Help

Many of you have been asking how you can support our clients during the COVID-19 crisis, especially with the heartbreaking suspension of volunteer activities. Financial donations for extra operating costs are an enormous need at this time, but we’ve also put together Amazon Wish Lists for Laura’s Home and Crossroads if you’d like to ship meaningful supplies and activities straight to our clients. Will you consider making a gift of either kind to help us care well for clients in the midst of the chaos? With help from neighbors like you, we know we can continue to provide a dignifying level of care even in the midst of uncertainty.

It was our privilege to connect with you through some really fun events, and amazingly we passed our $5,000 fundraising goal by more than $2,500. These funds are going to keep our care for people experiencing homelessness strong and steady during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We hope to meet with you virtually again in the future as this crisis continues to change how we all interact with each other. Learn more about our #InThisTogetherCLE efforts here.
