Become a Volunteer

How to Become a Volunteer

There are only a few basic steps to getting started as a volunteer - Attend a Prospective Volunteer Introduction (PVI) to identify the area(s) and position(s) you are most interested in, and submit an application. Some positions or opportunities may require additional processes.

Please note that all of our volunteer positions are divided into three distinct categories: Indirect Client Contact (IC), Direct Client Contact (DC), and Direct-Child Client Contact (DCC). Each category may have specific application requirements. For instance, working directly with clients may require an interview, background check, etc.

Note: You must be at least 18 years old to apply for any of the positions listed below. However, we accept minors to serve on chaperoned groups. Only the Adult Chaperone needs to complete a volunteer application.

Step 1. Attend a Prospective Volunteer Introduction (PVI)

Our PVIs allow us to answer all the questions that you may have about serving at The City Mission. At the present time, due to a large volume of volunteer applications, we are temporarily suspending the PVIs. Please watch this page for future announcements.

However, if you are looking for group opportunities, please contact us at getinvolved@thecitymission.org.

Step 2. Review volunteer opportunities and complete an application

Review the opportunities below. For Group Service Projects, only group leader needs to apply.

For all Group Service Projects, please inquire 6-9 weeks before the intended date of service.
